Police: 1 person seriously injured in South Sioux City grain elevator explosion

An explosion and fire at a grain elevator in South Sioux City sent one person to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
There were three people inside the building around 1 p.m. Tuesday when the explosion happened. A second person was injured, but was not taken to the hospital. The third person was not injured.
Authorities evacuated homes in the area as multiple fire crews responded.
Crews are working to determine the safety of the building's structure. MidAmerican Energy was on site to turn off the gas line to the building. Authorities have not yet said what caused the explosion at the grain elevator owned by Anderson Farms.
