Our Town Maquoketa: River recreation grows

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - Residents of Maquoketa say the river that shares the same name, is fundamental. Some even call it therapeutic.

“You got your 40 hour work week, most people are working 50 to 60 hours a week. If you can get two hours out on the river, it gives them a whole brighten for the whole next week,” Maquoketa Ricer Rental Owner Kevin Kuhlman said.

He started the rental businesses 3 years ago. Kuhlman offers tubes, kayaks, and paddle boards for the nearly 700 people who come through each summer. The others might enjoy some time swimming on the sandbar or finishing along the riverbanks.

Kuhlman said with more people visiting the river each year cleanup is important. The city is holding a few cleanup sessions this year. You can find more information about those on this website.
