Update: Names released in fatal semi vs truck accident near Prairie du Chien

The Crawford County Dispatch was called to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 18 between Prairie du Chien and the state of Iowa on November 6 at 8:58 a.m.

A semi driven by a Robert Wiemerslage, 63, of Spring Grove, Minnesota man hit a truck driven by a 49-year-old Raul Rivera Negron from Cedar Rapids.

The driver of the semi was pulling an empty grain hauling trailer and was headed west on Highway 18 towards Iowa. He was talking to his wife, 65-year-old Mary Wiemerslage, when he slumped over onto her lap.

The semi crossed over into the Eastbound lane and hit the pick-up truck head-on. The two vehicles then went 300 feet before stopping.

Rivera Negron was removed from his vehicle utilizing the jaws of life.

Robert Wiemerslage was taken to Crossing Rivers Health Care where he was pronounced dead.

Mary Wiemerslage was transported to Crossing Rivers Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Rivera Negron was taken to Crossing Rivers Hospital and later Med Flighted to La Crosse with several broken bones and possible internal injuries.

Both vehicles had severe damage and Highway 18 was closed for about an hour due to the accident.

Assisting at the scene was the Prairie du Chien Police Department, Crawford County Highway Department, Rural Bridgeport Fire and First responders, Clayton County Iowa Sheriff’s Department, MarMac Police Dept. Wisconsin State Patrol, Tri-State EMS, MarMac Rescue Squad and Bob’s Towing.
