North Liberty chooses newest city council member

NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa (KCRG) - More than 800 people cast a ballot in North Liberty's special election, and they chose RaQuishia Harrington as their newest city council member.

Voters went to the poll on Tuesday and chose among six candidates.

Harrington received 275 votes, or 33% of total votes. The winner only needed a majority, not 50% of the vote, in order to win.

RaQuishia Harrington - 275 votes, 33%
Brent Smith - 253 votes, 31%
Steve Sherman - 115 votes, 14%
Josey Bathke - 78 votes, 9%
Abdouramane Bila - 72 votes, 9%
Matt Zacek - 29 votes, 4%

There are 11,473 registered voters in North Liberty and 822 cast a ballot, 88 of which were done by absentee. That's 7.2% turnout.
