CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG)-- A roughly $30 million expansion opened at the Eastern Iowa Airport Monday afternoon.
It's a 54,000 square foot area near the gates after passengers have gone through security. It offers more seating for people waiting for their flights.
Workers still have to finish painting a few walls. And staff say a few more food concessions will open up.
The expansion also includes extra jet bridges to the planes.
"Key for me I guess is when it's all sudden done we'll add two more jet bridges. So we currently have seven we'll go to nine,” Pam Hinman said.
It’s part three of a four-part project.
The first two include changes to airport security.
The final phase will create more room at existing gates toward the back of the airport. There's no timeline for when that final phase will start.
