Neighborhood continues fight against Kinnick replica

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - An Iowa City neighborhood continues to fight a proposed project that’d plant a more than 7,000 square foot replica of Kinnick Stadium.

Over the weekend, neighbors distributed about 100 yard signs that say ‘Stop “Kinnick” Party Venue on Lusk Ave.’ The signs say the project threatens Iowa City neighborhoods, tax dollars, and safety.

Neighbors have also distributed a petition that details those
arguments.

Here's a link to the petition.

“This is supposed to be low density, single family homes,” said Manville Heights resident Gerard Rushton. “And that's what it is if you look around. This just does not fit that.”

Rushton home sits about a block away from the proposed project. He has lived there for nearly 50 years.

“When I saw the plans for it and the size of it, I was in disbelief,” Rushton said.

Rushton and other neighbors plan to deliver their petition against the home to the Iowa City Board of Adjustment. The board will consider an appeal against the home at a meeting scheduled for September 14.
