Minivan punches through Dillard's wall at Coralville mall

A minivan punched through the wall of a department store at a Coralville mall, police said Saturday evening.

Officers responded around 7:00 p.m. to the Dillard's at Coral Ridge Mall, located on 1411 Coral Ridge Ave, to find the vehicle had penetrated an exterior wall of the store.

A Coralville police sergeant said the collision appeared to be accidental. He said the initial investigation suggested the driver of the van suffered some kind of medical issue which led to the crash.

Though the incident happened on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, no one was seriously hurt.

Shoppers recalled seeing a thick cloud of dust, kicked up by the collision. One witness said customers were asked to leave the store shortly after.

Authorities said they will continue to investigate the crash.
