URBANA, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a fatal minivan vs. semi crash on Interstate 380 between the Center Point and Urbana exits Monday afternoon.

A minivan driver died when the vehicle went onto the right shoulder of Interstate 380 about two miles south of the Urbana exit, veered across both northbound lanes and was hit by a semi on Monday, Oct. 31, 2016. (Phil Reed/KCRG-TV9)

Troopers said it happened about 1 p.m. at the 39 mile marker. They said a Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by Sandra Schuety and a semi tractor trailer truck were northbound when Schuety went onto the right shoulder for an unknown reason, then veered left across both northbound lanes. Troopers said the semi hit the minivan as it entered the left lane, and both vehicles came to rest in the median.

The patrol said Schuety was injured in the crash and died later at University of Iowa Hospitals. No one else was injured.

SECOND CRASH
About two hours after the fatal crash, the Linn County Sheriff's Office responded to another crash in almost the same spot.

Deputies said it happened about 2:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-380 at the 37.35 mile marker. They said a car crashed into the rear of an SUV, but have not said how it happened.

Emergency crews took the car's driver to an area hospital for what authorities said are non-life threatening injuries. The SUV driver was not injured.
