Two eastern Iowa girls were hoping to become the next Scripps National Spelling Bee champion. But Lydia Bitterman and Haebin Han will have to wait for another year.

Lydia Bitterman correctly spelled the words suivez and dominion on stage Wednesday. She was eliminated in Round 3. Bitterman is 12 and from Cedar Rapids. She is in the Marion Homeschool Association program.

Haebin Han spelled auditor wrong in Round 2. Instead of spelling it with an "or" at the end, she spelled it with an "er." Before that, she did spell scrobiculate right. Han is 14 and from Dubuque. She attends Eleanor Roosevelt Middle School.
