Man charged with arson after attempting to start truck on fire at Five Seasons Parkade
A Cedar Rapids man faces multiple charges after taking a car and trying to start it on fire.
Authorities responded to the Five Seasons Parkade on August 11 and found 22-year-old Grant Ajango had tried to light a truck on fire by stuffing paper into the truck and lighting the paper on fire.
Video footage showed Ajango had tampered with the pay station at the entrance.
Police found Ajango in possession of methamphetamine, burglar's tools, including a broken knife and screw driver pieces.
Ajango has been charged with 2nd Degree Arson, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Penalty Enhanced) (Methamphetamine), 3rd Degree Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools, 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief, and Interference with Official Acts.
Documents say Ajango caused damage that ranges between $500-$1,000 and he had no right to enter the vehicle he tried to set on fire.
Ajango is still awaiting a trial scheduled for October 16 in Johnson County regarding an incident in August 2016.
Documents say Ajango allegedly walked into a bathroom, locked the door and performed a sex act without consent from the victim who was in the restroom. Ajango faces False Imprisonment and 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse charges for the 2016 incident.
