UPDATE: Man charged with 1st Degree Murder after dad dies from injuries

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- On Monday, December 4, the victim, Mark Meier, 63, died from the injuries of the incident on November 13.

An autopsy listed the cause of death as complications from blunt force injury and the manner of death as a homicide.

On December 12 the Johnson County Attorney's Office amended the charge to Murder in the 1st Degree.

Kennedy-Meier is in custody at the Johnson County Jail.

The case is being investigated by the ICPD investigations division.


A 30-year-old man has been charged after hitting his dad in the head.

Police say the incident happened on November 13 at 4:48 p.m. in Kennedy Meier's house.

Flannery Kennedy Meier, of Iowa City, hit his dad on the head with a weapon causing a skull fracture and brain bleed.

Reports say there was no provocation before he hit his dad.

Kennedy Meier was charged with Willful Injury - Causing Serious Injury.
