WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) A man is in custody after a standoff with authorities in Waterloo.

Authorities say they were initially called to 1233 Downing Avenue for a report of assault.

Officers say they made several attempts to contact Mitchell Langel, 51, but he would not cooperate.

Hours later, on Friday morning, Langel surrendered. Authorities say they were just about to deploy gas into the home.

Langel was taken into custody without incident.
