CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A new events center in Cedar Falls hopes to open its doors by the end of 2018.
Open Door Hospitality proposed the development just off of Highway 20 near Hudson Road. The events center would hold more than one-thousand people. The hotel would have about 140 rooms.
Open Door Hospitality already purchased the property.
All that's left is approval from the city, and developers are confident it's a hurdle they'll pass.
"We're going to be able to house huge associations that before the community couldn't hold and we felt that was a big need in Cedar Falls," Mary Carlson said.
The goal is to host large conventions or even weddings. There's no architecture renderings yet, but developers already have goals in place.
Developers also have an agreement with The Greater Cedar Valley Alliance and Chamber to include it in development plans.
"We'll have a chance to add our voice to the refinement over time," Steve Dust said.
The Chamber backs this plan because it believes the center will boost area tourism.
"One of the things that is a magnet to any place is additional meeting facilities, choice, everyone likes to have variety," Dust said.
Both parties agree the location couldn't be better, as it's right next to UNI and major roadways in town.
"You'll see it right off the interstate," Carlson said.
Open Door Hospital plans to have its proposal finalized and submitted to the Cedar Falls City Council within the next two weeks.
