The Linn County Board of Supervisors is finalizing the plans for Hiawatha's first dog park.
The park is 3 1/2 acres and will sit off North Center Point and Boyson roads. It's to the south of Dave Wright Subaru and next to the Cedar Valley Nature Trail. The county owns a portion of the land and will lease it to the city.
Board Chairman John Harris said it's something the people of Hiawatha are excited about.
"Folks in Hiawatha that have a dog and want to take it to a park have a long way to go to get to a regular dog park. The anticipation is that this will be quite popular," Harris said.
He said now that the land is in agreement, paperwork can begin. There is no set date for completion.
