A state board has ruled the principal of the new Liberty High School in North Liberty did nothing wrong when he wrote an email to parents, an email that contained information about an upcoming vote on a bond issue.

An opponent of the bond issue had said Principal Scott Kibby was using his school email to speak in favor of it. But the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board says Kibby was only providing a list of improvements the bond issue would pay for if it passes.

The bond vote is for $194 million over six years. If it passes, it would fund major updates to existing school buildings in the Iowa City District. The voting will take place on September 12.
