Layoffs Continue as Chemical Companies Merge
Layoffs continue at DuPont Pioneer in Johnston as the company begins a proposed merger with Dow Chemical. The new combined company will be called DowDupont.
Iowa Workforce Development confirmed about 175 jobs have been cut since a merger with Dow Chemical Company was announced in December. A spokesperson reported 10 percent of the workforce would be impacted.
Efforts are being made to bring its headquarters to Iowa.
Gov. Terry Branstad hosted a meeting with DowDupont officials at Terrace Hill, the State Economic Development Director and Johnston Mayor traveled to Delaware and Senator Chuck Grassley said he has called on the company to sell them on the value of the assets they have in Iowa at a town hall meeting Monday.
Branstad told KCCI he is optimistic about the company's future in Iowa. The merger, creating the largest agrochemical and seed company, is still subject to regulatory approval.
