WEST UNION, Iowa (KCRG) The City of West Union says people in the city need to use only bottled drinking water for the next couple of days.

City staff said due to a large water main break in town, the city water is not safe to drink. It can still be used for bathing, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.

However, officials said that boiling the tap water in town will not make it safe to ingest, thus the advisory to use only bottled water until further notice.

Crews are working Monday to repair the damage.

A series of water samples will be sent to a lab for testing on Monday and the city will need to submit another set of samples 24 hours later.

City officials say Wednesday would be the earliest the advisory would be lifted.
