Lamar Wilson guilty of voluntary manslaughter in Iowa City ped mall shooting, jury says
A jury on Wednesday found Lamar C. Wilson guilty of voluntary manslaughter, two counts of assault with the intent to inflict serious injury and intimidation with a dangerous weapon in a deadly 2017 shooting on Iowa City's pedestrian mall.
Prosecutors had asked the jury to find Wilson guilty on four counts: first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
Instead, the jury found him guilty of lesser offenses in the first three charges.
Wilson’s lawyers did not dispute that he fired five bullets on the crowded ped mall at about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 27, half an hour before bar close, killing 22-year-old Kaleek Jones and injuring Xavier Hicks and D'Andre Hicks.
