DECORAH, Iowa (KCRG) -- The Democrat who's still hoping to win a seat in the Iowa legislature is urging her supporters to take action.
Kayla Koether lost a recount in House District 55, with Republican Michael Bergan winning by just nine votes. That district covers parts of Winneshiek, Clayton and Fayette Counties.
She sued to get 33 absentee ballots counted that arrived with postal bar codes instead of postmarks. The U.S. Postal Service scanned them Thursday, and 29 of them were mailed on time to be counted.
Now Koether is trying to get people to sign a petition that asks the Iowa Judicial Branch, Iowa's Secretary of State, and the Winneshiek County Auditor to count those votes. Koether already has more than 4,600 signatures. Her goal is five thousand. There is a link to the petition on the right side of this story.
