Eastern Iowa man is rescued by his kids after a shed falls on him
A man has his kids to thank for saving his life after an accident Tuesday morning. Matt Gannaway was tearing down a shed at his mom’s house in Marshalltown when it collapsed on him. He thought the shed was going to fall a different direction than it did.
His four kids, Ethan 13, Peyton 11, Addison 9, and Kaiden 5, called for help, but were able to raise the shed up, and drag their dad to safety before paramedics arrived.
The accident broke Gannaway’s shoulder blade, and left him with a couple of cuts on his face. Gannaway says he was unconscious when the shed fell on top of him, and doesn’t remember anything. He will have to wear a sling for his injured shoulder for a couple of weeks, but he expects to make a full recovery.
Gannaway is fortunate for his children. He says, “I'm extremely proud of them. They did what they were supposed to do, and they knew what they had to do to make sure things were ok. They called 9-1-1 first, and then they tried to make sure I was safe."
The kids said they had one thing on their minds, and that was to save their father. Ethan says, "I'm very happy to see that my dad is ok and made it through it. I don't know what I would have done if he had died."
Gannaway wants to reward his kids for saving his life, but his kids say having their dad alive and well is a good enough gift.
