KCRG College Football Picks

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Week 13:
Scott Saville:
ISU 31
K State 28

This will be big win on the road for Iowa State in the Little Apple.

Iowa. 24
Nebraska. 21

Maybe another walk off for the Hawks

Wisconsin 21
Minnesota. 28

Gophers are headed to Indy

Josh Christensen:

Iowa vs Nebraska: Iowa has a chance to keep the Heroes Trophy for a 5th straight season and keep Nebraska out of a bowl game with a win. Huskers nearly made a comeback last season. However, I still see Iowa making it five in a row winning 24-13.

Iowa State vs Kansas State: This matchup has seen some incredible finishes the last couple of years. Kansas State, which is coached by Waterloo native Chris Klieman, has beaten Oklahoma this season. I’m a little worried the Wildcats will squeak by in this one, 23-21.

Wisconsin vs Minnesota: I believe there’s supposed to be quite a bit of snow in this one. Last year, Minnesota ended a long losing streak against Wisconsin. Gophers get the win and win the Big Ten West, 21-17.

Joe Winters:

Iowa State Cyclones at Kansas State – This one is all Iowa State with a 36 to 24 win. #SpinClones

Iowa Hawkeyes at Nebraska – Rain in the forecast for the game. Nebraska has everything to play for and has the motivation to win this game. Nebraska become bowl eligible with a 21-19 win.

Wisconsin at Minnesota – Closest and best game of the weekend. Wisconsin keeps the axe, winning the Big Ten West and sets their sights on the Rose Bowl. Wisconsin in a close one 35-31.

Week 12:

Chris Earl
Kansas at Iowa State. Will be curious to see how Iowa State responds. The Cyclones finally got a close win this last week, 23-21 over Texas in a game where Iowa State led 20-7. Kansas has jumped up at times in 2019, nearly beating Texas and getting past Texas Tech. This is a Saturday where Iowa State rolls on, 41-17.

Illinois at Iowa. The “expectations” for Iowa are awfully steep. Illinois is a 15-point underdog. I’m not sure if I trust Iowa to beat anyone in the Big Ten who isn’t Rutgers or Maryland or Northwestern by 15. Illinois has won four in a row after the wild comeback in East Lansing. Iowa got past Minnesota by four points but the Gophers outgained Iowa, which is a concern. Iowa should win this game but Illinois will keep it tight. Iowa 27, Illinois 21.

Ohio State at Penn State. I’ve seen more issues with Penn State the last three weeks and Ohio State has played clean football. The Lions have had difficult games in recent weeks – at Iowa, at Minnesota and a tricky game against Indiana. Lots of points, especially against the weaker Penn State defense. Ohio State 45, Penn State 23.

Scott Saville
Kansas 21
Iowa State 38

Another big day for Brock Purdy and the Cyclone offense.

Illinois 17
Iowa 34
Hawks snap the Illini 4 game winning streak. Stanley with a big game on Senior Day.

Ohio State 31
Penn State 20
Should be a good game but the Buckeyes have more talent.

Josh Christensen

Illinois s Iowa: This is a different Illinois team compared to years past, but I don’t think it’ll be enough against Iowa. Hawkeyes win 31-14.

Kansas vs Iowa State: I think it’s fair to say that Kansas is outmatched in this one. Cyclones roll to a 42-9 win.

Ohio State vs Penn State: I’ve always felt Ohio State is the best team in the country. Buckeyes will prove it again winning 35-21.

Joe Winters

Kansas at Iowa State Cyclones – Iowa State 45-14 – Another big win for ISU at Jack Trice. No rainfall to speak of at Jack Trice so Purdy will take control and run away with this one.

Illinois at Iowa Hawkeyes - Iowa 24-21 – There will be a letdown in the offense after a great Minnesota win. A win yes, but much closer than most think will happen. Iowa’s defense will get credit for this win.

Ohio State at Penn State – Ohio State 48-17 – Penn State has been exposed when they lost to Minnesota. Ohio State is also just that good. Look for a big win to keep the Buckeyes undefeated.

Week 11:

Chris Earl

Texas at Iowa State. For all of the success that Matt Campbell has enjoyed in Ames, beating Texas is not one of them. Not only this but his offense just hasn’t solved the Longhorns to this point. It’s a bit befuddling in that Texas should be ripe for a loss against the Cyclones. In this matchup, Texas is getting 7 points in Ames and I like them to win the game straight up. Texas 27, Iowa State 20.

Minnesota at Iowa. This could be a case of misleading final scores. Iowa lost at Wisconsin 24-22 but the Badgers jumped out to a big lead (relatively-speaking – this is Big Ten West). Minnesota is now 9-0 and people are saying “what’s their big win aside from Penn State?”. Iowa’s biggest win… Iowa State? Purdue? When I look at the 2019 Gophers, I see a program riding out momentum and belief. Minnesota 24, Iowa 16.

Oklahoma at Baylor. This should be an odd spot as both teams will, likely, be in the Big XII title game in a few weeks. Will they show too much? Pull something back? Note: I have not gotten a single Baylor game correct this year (whether for or against). Iowa State – WRONG. Kansas State over Baylor – WRONG. Texas Tech-Baylor under – WRONG. Oklahoma State over Baylor – WRONG. Baylor to cover against West Virginia – WRONG. Baylor-TCU? I stayed away. First smart decision of 2019. My pick: Oklahoma 38, Baylor 27… so take Baylor.

Josh Christensen

Texas at Iowa State: The Cyclones could easily be undefeated in Big 12 play, but the theme in all their losses is learning to play a full 60 minutes. I can see Iowa State bouncing back at home. Cyclones take down Texas 28-24.

Minnesota at Iowa: Iowa is still searching for its first win against a ranked opponent this year. Minnesota got the nation’s attention by beating Penn State. Still have concerns with Iowa’s offense. I do feel Minnesota will pull off the upset, 21-13.

Oklahoma at Baylor: Is Baylor for real? Give them credit, but I think Oklahoma ends the perfect season winning 42-31.

Joe Winters

Texas at Iowa State Cyclones – Iowa State 40-24 – After a narrow lose last week, Iowa State bounces back at home for a big win.

Minnesota at Iowa Hawkeyes – Iowa 24-21 – With the Big Ten West title in their grasp the Gophers and overlooking the Hawkeyes. Look for Nate Stanley to bring it into the red zone and score touchdowns at home to take down unbeaten Minnesota.

Oklahoma at Baylor – Oklahoma – 45-32 – Oklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the Plains. On this Saturday it will be the team where the win gets put into their column.

Week 10:

Chris Earl:

Iowa State at Oklahoma. I have a different angle on this game in that, unlike the stereotype of the Big XII, I see a lower-scoring contest. Matt Campbell has a track record of beating the expectations against Oklahoma and defending them. Oklahoma will win but I like it to be lower scoring. Oklahoma 34, Iowa State 23.

Iowa at Wisconsin. This will also be low-scoring and that should be no surprise. Wisconsin is coming off two bad losses, Illinois and then Ohio State blowing them out. My concern for Iowa… where will the offense come from? One element that helps Iowa: the Hawkeyes have not given up a run of 20+ yards all year – that’s crucial when facing Wisconsin. The Badgers will win, only because they’ll be the first to 17. Wisconsin 17, Iowa 9.

Penn State at Minnesota. I love the storylines here. Penn State comes in at 8-0. I had the Gophers winning the Big Ten West, largely because of Fleck’s third year and a very favorable schedule. Minnesota is a 7-point underdog and, yet, that feels right. I think the Gophers will settle for field goals too many times while Penn State is in these high-leverage games all the game. However, this is a cornerstone game for Minnesota. Sigh… Penn State 20, Minnesota 16.

Scott Saville

ISU 27
Oklahoma 34

Cyclones come close against a really mad and talented Oklahoma team. I would love to see another upset over the Sooners.

Iowa 17
Wisconsin 21

Boy I hope I am wrong!

Penn State 28
Minnesota 21

Big step up in competition for the Gophers.

Josh Christensen

Iowa at Wisconsin: Whoever wins this game will battle Minnesota for the Big Ten West, the loser is out of the race completely. Wisconsin has won six of the last seven meetings. This will be a low scoring game, but no Brandon Smith hurts Iowa. Wisconsin wins 17-13.

Iowa State at Oklahoma: A lot is at stake in this game as well in the race for the Big 12. The loser is out of the race, while the winner stays alive. Two years ago, the Cyclones pulled off one of the biggest wins in program history. This game will be competitive, but I think Jalen Hurts will be too tough to stop. Oklahoma wins 38-31.

Penn State at Minnesota: PJ Fleck got a contract extension this week and he Gophers have two-game lead in the Big Ten West. But this is where their lead shrinks facing a tough Penn State defense. Nittany Lions win 30-9.

Joe Winters

Iowa at Wisconsin - Wisconsin 24-10 – Again – full disclosure I am a Wisconsin Badger. Low scoring game as both defenses will be tough to score against early. Taylor wears the Iowa line down and gets it done in the 2nd half. Get ready for the band to celebrate during the 5th Quarter. On Wisconsin!

Iowa State at Oklahoma – Oklahoma – 45-34 – I really, really want to pick ISU. Purdy is bound to have a better game and ISU has one statement win every year. This could be the case, but Oklahoma is good and at home so my pick stays with them.

Penn State at Minnesota - Penn State 35-17 – Penn State does not deserve the 4th place ranking in the college football play poll. Besides they will lose to Ohio State next week anyhow. Minnesota hasn’t gotten much respect for their undefeated year thus far and this week we see why.

Week 9:

Scott Saville:

UNI 24
Illinois State 21

This will be a huge road win for the Panthers

Georgia 28
Florida 21

Don't bet the house on my pick. This is a tough one to call.

SMU 35
Memphis 42

I have know idea if they will win. I just like watching Memphis play. A lot of speed!

Josh Christensen

UNI - Illinois State: The Panthers are quietly 3-1 in the Valley. Their defense has been solid and the offense continues to get better. I see them coming away with a big road win, but it'll be close, 21-17.

Georgia - Florida: The debate will continue all year long if a one-loss SEC team will get into the playoffs. Georgia keeps that going with a win over Florida, 28-20.

SMU - Memphis: This has the potential to be a high-scoring game. Memphis is 5-0 in the last five meetings against SMU. I say they make it six-in-a-row winning 35-31.

Joe Winters:
I am taking a BYE Week for comments this week, just picks. Here they are:

UNI v. Illinois State – UNI 28-24

Georgia v. Florida – Georgia 35-30

SMU (Sothern Methodist University) v. Memphis – SMU 36-31

Week 8:

Nicole Agee:

Chris Earl:

Oklahoma State at Iowa State. This is a perfect spot for the Cyclones, who come off impressive road wins at West Virginia and Texas Tech. Oklahoma State looks like a darling early with an explosive offense. Here’s a problem. Turnovers and they play true Big XII defense. Add in a windy October day at Jack Trice and actually caring about hanging onto the ball. Iowa State rolls 41-27.

Iowa at Northwestern. I don’t anticipate this will have a lot of scoring – no surprise for Iowa games this year. Northwestern’s offense is dreadful and this will be the saving grace for the Hawkeyes. Usually in Northwestern games, you take the underdog and the points but 2019 is an exception. I figure Iowa will get mentally right here, with a 24-6 win along the lake.

Wisconsin at Ohio State. As a Wisconsin alum, I can’t stand Ohio State. Cannot stand them. However, 2019 Ohio State is 2018 Alabama. They’re blowing out teams in the first half pretty much every week and I think this will keep up against Wisconsin. We haven’t seen Wisconsin have to play from behind and they don’t have the offense that can excel down 10-0 or 17-0. Ohio State gets up early and wins easily. Ohio State 38, Wisconsin 13.

Scott Saville

Oklahoma State 21
Iowa State 34

The Cyclones make it 4 in arrow!

Iowa 20
Northwestern 14

No Wildcat nightmares

Wisconsin 21
Ohio State 28

Badgers make it interesting.

Josh Christensen

Iowa - Northwestern: Iowa’s win last week versus Purdue wasn’t pretty, but it was a win. Northwestern’s offense has struggled to score. I see this as a low scoring game, but Iowa winning, 17-6.

Iowa State - Oklahoma State: Iowa State’s offense is rolling. It’s not just Purdy — Breece Hall is coming on as a running back. The Cowboys do have some young and talented pieces on offense, but Iowa State stays perfect in October winning, 31-27.

Wisconsin - Ohio State: Who would’ve thought that Illinois would change the landscape of the Big Ten race after beating Wisconsin last week. The Badgers will probably play with a chip on their shoulder, but it won’t be enough. Ohio State wins 35-17.

Joe Winters

Oklahoma State at Iowa State Cyclones – Iowa State 45-24 – It’s Homecoming and Cy is excited! He is very excited that there is no rain in the forecast at Jack Trice. Look for an overwhelming victory by the Clones. #SpinClones

Iowa Hawkeyes at Northwestern – Iowa 28-21 – Northwestern always plays Iowa tough. So this will be tighter than people think. I have some friends going to the game in Evanston who will cheer the Hawkeyes to victory, after some tailgating of course!

Wisconsin at Ohio State – Wisconsin 35-31 – My alma mater got embarrassed at IL last week and needs to rebound. The early start, 11am, favors the Badgers as Ohio State is used to the primetime slot on television. Watch for Wisconsin to Jump Around to victory. Go Badgers!

Week 8:

Nicole Agee:

Chris Earl:

Iowa State 27, Texas Tech 24. The Cyclones proved me wrong with the ease of their win at West Virginia last week. That was a big hurdle, even as WVU is a team that is rebuilding with a new coach. Texas Tech has impressed in Lubbock, with a drubbing of Oklahoma State just two weeks ago. The Cyclones play actual defense and I think they’ll win – just not covering the expectations.

Iowa 31, Purdue 16. In general, I think that points are hard to come by for games at Kinnick. We saw that last week against Penn State. Purdue is working through major injuries on their offense but they still throttled Maryland. This comes as the Hawkeyes’ offense struggled to block against Michigan and then struggled to “finish” (red zone, special teams) against Penn State. Iowa wins but not by a blowout.

Michigan 17, Penn State 13. UPSET SPECIAL. Penn State comes in as a hefty favorite but I think this is the one day where Michigan finds its center again. They’re coming in with low expectations after the Wisconsin loss as Penn State is now hearing on campus how awesome they are. The Wolverines have nothing to lose and I don’t think they’ll lose Saturday.

Scott Saville

ISU 31
Texas Tech. 24

The Cyclones found a running back.

Purdue 21
Iowa. 34

Iowa gets some revenge.

Michigan 17
Penn State 21

Penn State Whiteout.

Josh Christensen

Iowa State – Texas Tech: There’s something about the month of October lately with Iowa State. The Cyclones are 9-0 in the month of October since 2017. This won’t be an easy road game. Texas Tech has beaten Oklahoma State and only lost by three to Baylor. I still like how Iowa State is clicking right now. Cyclones win a close one, 30-27.

Purdue – Iowa: After two tough losses, this is Iowa’s chance to get back on track. The Hawkeyes have lost the last two meetings against Purdue, but the Boilermakers are dealing injuries. Their top wide receiver Rondale Moore may not play. Iowa gets back in the win column, 28-14.

Michigan – Penn State: After seeing these two teams in the past two weeks, you have two really good defenses. The question is which offense will make the big play? I’m still not sold on Michigan. Give me Penn State, 35-10.

Joe Winters

Iowa State Cyclones at Texas Tech - 42-28 Iowa State – Just a tad cool down in Lubbock with a kickoff temperature in the 60s. Look for the Clones to spin their way to a big win. #SpinClones

Purdue at Hawkeyes - 35-3 Iowa – The boiling point of water is 212 degrees. Game time temperature in the upper 50s at Kinnick. Too cold for Purdue to even get across the goal line.

Michigan at Penn State - 42-21 Penn State – Happy Valley and 100,000 fans are too much for the Wolverines to handle. Just remember, Illinois almost beat them last week.

Week 7:

Some members of the KCRG-TV9 News staff are picking their winning college football teams for the week. This week, they're picking between Iowa State vs. West Virginia, Iowa vs. Penn State and Oklahoma vs. Texas.

Nicole Agee

Iowa State vs. West Virginia: IOWA STATE
After a big win (and my correct prediction) over TCU, Iowa State's defense will play a big role in another win this weekend. 27-13

Iowa vs. Penn State: IOWA
The Big 10 is performing well this season, so this will be a game to watch. Defense could make the difference in this game as well, but I think Iowa will prevail at Kinnick with the upset. 17-10

Oklahoma vs. Texas: OKLAHOMA
Red River Rivalry is not easy to say - and this is not an easy pick. But I'll go with Oklahoma in this top 10 showdown. 33-27

Chris Earl:

Iowa State at West Virginia. I see a much tighter spot here for the Cyclones than the opinion makers. ISU should win here but West Virginia has exceeded expectations in a few sports. Also, I see this as a big game for the Mountaineers as they rebuild. Iowa State 31, West Virginia 26.

Penn State at Iowa. Last week’s 10-3 loss at Michigan has all of the rats jumping off the ship. This is exactly the time to jump back to Iowa. Penn State hasn’t had an intense road game yet. Look for the rebound. Iowa 17, Penn State 16.

Texas vs. Oklahoma. This will be a day where each team has the lead about five times each. Oklahoma is largely untested but Texas fought with LSU but just wasn’t as refined then. They’ll keep it close. Closer than expectation. Oklahoma 38, Texas 34.

Scott Saville:

Iowa State 42
West Virginia 28

Could be a real shootout in Morgantown and I wouldn’t bet against Brock Purdy. My niece named her new dog Purdy. I once named one of my dogs Kirby after Kirby Puckett.

Penn State 17
Iowa 20

Another Kinnick night game thriller! Don’t forget you long johns.

Oklahoma 34
Texas 21

The Sooners with too much “O”

Josh Christensen

Iowa - Penn State: Iowa’s defense showed last week that it can keep the Hawkeyes in games. It’s the offense that has to do its job. I’m a little worried about this game, but I do think the night-time atmosphere will be just enough. Iowa wins 17-14.

Iowa State - West Virginia: It’s called Brock-Tibet for a reason. Purdy will once again pick apart another defense. Cyclones win 30-13.

Oklahoma - Texas: I saw that ever since 2009, Oklahoma has been the betting favorite in this game. Now, the Sooners are a touchdown-favorite this year, but this game will be very close. Jalen Hurts is quietly having a big season. Sooners squeak out the win, 38-35.

Joe Winters

Iowa State Cyclones at West Virginia - ISU 38 24 – There is a possibility of rain for a cyclone game although this one is on the road. Just the fact that showers are around will push the Clones to a win.

Penn State at Iowa Hawkeyes PS 32-28 – Nighttime magic a Kinnick requires a wind chill above 40. That will not happen this weekend allowing the Lions to roar at the cold for the win.

Oklahoma at Texas - Oklahoma 48 – 36 – Texas is no fan of the cold weather and on Saturday temps fall to 70. The Longhorns will shiver as Oklahoma takes this one.

Week 6:

TCU vs. Iowa State: IOWA STATE
I realize that my loyalty to my sister's alma mater has contributed to my last place ranking among TV9 staff, but I'm doing it again this week. Come on, Cyclones! 27-21

Iowa vs. Michigan: MICHIGAN
This will be a fun one to watch with both teams ranking in the middle of the top 25, but I think Michigan will win at the Big House. 21-17

Michigan State vs. Ohio State: OHIO STATE
I really have no rationale for this pick - it's like a gut reaction to a WeatherWise question. 33-21

Chris Earl

Texas Christian at Iowa State. My hesitation to jump on Iowa State immediately is the exhaustion that the Cyclones may still be feeling from losing at Baylor in 95-degree heat. That being said, TCU is tricky this year, with a road win at Purdue but a home loss to an SMU team that has jumped up early this season. Wind and "October in Ames" will play a significant role against the Horned Frogs. Iowa State will win but it won't be pretty. Iowa State 20, TCU 17.

Iowa at Michigan. This should be relatively easy to predict, at least on the game script. Both teams will run the ball -- that's Iowa's plan and that's Michigan's only real course of action. Halftime will be 10-6 or 13-7 but just unsure who will be ahead at that point. Iowa is looking to play this game to be within a score with ten minutes left. That's their style on the road. However, in the last decade as road underdogs, Iowa often struggles to "meet expectations". Michigan 20, Iowa 13.

Michigan State at Ohio State. From 2011-2016, Michigan State played Ohio State even, winning three of six. Yet the series really turned in 2017 and 2018, with Ohio State pulling in lopsided victories. We all saw Ohio State destroy Nebraska last week while Michigan State is just a little... off... in recent weeks. MSU is also in a rough stretch. Ohio State this week, at Wisconsin next week. Will they go all-in for this game? Ohio State wins and exceeds expectations. Ohio State 35, Michigan State 6.

Scott Saville

TCU 17
ISU 21

This will be another close one but the Cyclones will pull out the "W" at home.

Iowa 21
Michigan 20

The Hawkeyes will ground and pound the Wolverines and send the Michigan fan base into a Harbaugh tizzy.

Michigan State 14
Ohio State 28

The Buckeyes might be the best team in the country right now.

Josh Christensen
Iowa vs Michigan – This is the first step for Iowa to show it wants to be at the top echelon in the Big Ten. Michigan has all sorts of injuries and issues at quarterback. Iowa will control the game by running the ball and come away with a 20-14 win.

TCU vs Iowa State – The last two meetings between TCU and Iowa State have been decided by a total of 10 points. Since 2017, the Cyclones are 7-0 in the month of October. Even though TCU doesn’t give up a lot of yards, Cyclones make it 8-0 in October winning 20-17.

Michigan State vs Ohio State – If you haven’t noticed, Ohio State is good. Really good. The Buckeyes could make a case for being the best team in the country. No one has been able to slow them down and I don’t see how Michigan State does. Buckeyes cruise to the 38-13 win.

Joe Winters

TCU at Iowa State - Iowa State - 30-24 - Here's a surprise: there is rain in the forecast for the game at Jack Trice. Today, however, the Iowa State Band needs to play "Singing in the Rain", because that what the Cyclones will be doing with the win.

Iowa at Michigan - Michigan- 27-24 - Michigan is the favorite at home which has Coach Harbaugh fired up. The weather is perfect for football with the lower 60s during game time. It will be close, but Michigan needs this win to rescue this season.

Michigan State at Ohio State - Ohio State - 45-10 - I ran my first Spartan Race earlier this year. It will be tougher for Michigan State to score than it was for me to conquer the inverted wall. This one is all Ohio State.

Week 5:
Some members of the KCRG-TV9 News staff are picking their winning college football teams for the week. This week, they're picking between ISU vs. Baylor, Middle Tennessee vs. Iowa, and Ohio State vs. Nebraska.

Iowa State vs Baylor: IOWA STATE

If Iowa State even scores half the points as last week, they'll have an edge on the Bears. 36-30.

Middle Tennessee vs Iowa: IOWA

The Hawks have enjoyed a winning streak to start the season - make it 4-0! 33-14

Ohio State vs. Nebraska: OHIO STATE

Ohio State has built up momentum with a perfect record so far this season - make it 5-0 in a close game! 24-22

Chris Earl

Baylor 37, Iowa State 31. I’m in a tough see-saw on this game but I think the Cyclones may be getting too much love from hanging 72 points on a Louisiana-Monroe team that appeared to be there only for the check.

Iowa 34, Middle Tennessee State 14. Don’t I always do this for the Iowa non-conference games? Look for a low-scoring first half and then the Hawkeyes will cruise. I’d watch to see if this is a “look ahead” spot for Iowa as Michigan is in a week.

Ohio State 34, Nebraska 27. I LOVE Nebraska to be much closer than the world believes. Ohio State hasn’t had a real challenge yet and Nebraska tends to play up or down to the competition. They’ll play up on Saturday in Lincoln.

Scott Saville

Iowa State 31
Baylor 28

Baylor is much improved but Iowa State and Brock Purdy are too talented. Cyclones win a close one on the road

Middle Tennessee 14
Iowa 45

45 might be conservative. The Iowa offense will put up big numbers.

Ohio State 42
Nebraska 21

The Buckeyes with too much talent for the Huskers who struggled to beat Illinois last week.

Josh Christensen

Iowa State at Baylor: The Cyclones have won the last two meetings holding Baylor to 14 and 13 points. Brock Purdy is coming off a record-breaking performance. I don’t expect those kinds of numbers again, but Cyclones still start Big 12 play with a 28-17 win.

Middle Tennessee at Iowa: Iowa has a chance to go 4-0 for the first time since 2015. We know what happened that year. But not to get too far ahead, Hawkeyes do stay perfect on the year winning 35-13.

Ohio State at Nebraska: Nebraska barely beat Illinois and Ohio State is coming off a 76-point performance. Game Day will be in Lincoln, but that’s the only cheering Nebraska fans will be doing. Ohio State cruises to the 42-17 win.

Joe Winters

Iowa State Cyclones vs. Baylor – Iowa State 36 to 28 – Iowa State will score but not to equal the 90-degree heat they will be playing in. Only half of last week’s points are needed for the win this week against Baylor.

Middle Tennessee vs Iowa Hawkeyes – Iowa 35 to 21 – At home and not playing a Big Ten opponent will help, but the Hawkeyes may be singing in the rain as victory comes their way.

Ohio State at Nebraska – Ohio State 52 to 14 –Ohio State is the king of the Big Ten East and Nebraska has no Carson King at GameDay. Look for a big win on a wet field for the Buckeyes.

Week 4:
Some members of the KCRG-TV9 News staff are picking their winning college football teams for the week. This week, they're picking between Lousiana-Monroe vs. Iowa State, Oklahoma State at Texas and Notre Dame at Georgia.

Nicole Agee

Louisiana-Monroe at Iowa State: ISU
Iowa State is fired up after last week’s close game with Iowa. Leave your beer signs at home – no Gameday this week! 33-7.

Oklahoma State at Texas: Texas
The Horns will hook Oklahoma State and prove why they’re ranked #12. 38-13

Notre Dame at Georgia: Georgia
This will be a great game to watch with two high-ranked teams. I’m going with the SEC powerhouse in a close one – 30-28

Chris Earl

Iowa State 31, Louisiana-Monroe 20. This is a tough spot for the Cyclones coming off the tight loss to Iowa. On top of this, ULM had a bye last week and took Florida State to OT two weeks ago. Kaj says weather may be a factor so I think points could be precious. ISU wins but closer than some think.

Texas 46, Oklahoma State 33. The Pokes have won the last four meetings but I like Texas in this spot. They’re at home, they ran with LSU and they have an excellent QB. OSU, however, also has impressed but they’re moving up in class from their September wins.

Georgia 38, Notre Dame 20. I’ve been torn on this but the Irish defense is giving up more yards than an auctioneer in a recession. That’s Georgia’s specialty. Add in playing on the road and Notre Dame will struggle. They may run with UGA for a half but that’s it.

Scott Saville
Louisiana Monroe 21
Iowa State 42
This will be a high scoring game and Brock Purdy will light up the stat sheet. Louisiana-Monroe lost to Florida State two weeks ago 45-44 in overtime on a missed extra point. The Cyclones will have to put the Iowa game behind them because Louisiana-Monroe has a lot talent on offense.

OSU 28
TEXAS 35
This will be another high scoring fun game to watch. Go with the home team.

Notre Dame 21
Georgia 28
The Bulldogs are big game tested and at home.

Josh Christensen
LA-Monroe vs Iowa State - This isn’t necessarily a cupcake opponent. The Warhawks lost by one point in overtime to Florida State. That being said, Iowa State’s defense will be too much. Cyclones win 31-13.

Oklahoma State vs Texas - Oklahoma State has won five straight in Austin. This has the makings of a shootout since both teams are ranked at the bottom of the Big 12 in defense. I say Oklahoma State makes it six consecutive wins in Austin, 38-35.

Notes Dame vs Georgia - We’re probably still arguing whether Georgia or Norte Dame deserved the last playoff spot last season. That being said, if there’s one thing I’ve learned, never trust Notre Dame in these big games. Georgia wins 38-21.

Joe Winters
Louisiana-Monroe at Iowa State – 38-21 Iowa State – Severe weather is not anticipated at Jack Trice Stadium this week and neither are any Iowa State mistakes.

Oklahoma State at Texas – 35-27 Texas – A few showers in Texas cannot keep the Longhorns down.

Notre Dame at Georgia – 42-24 Georgia – 92,000 fans strong cheer the beautiful weather in Athens and the Bulldogs onto victory.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Week 3:
Some members of the KCRG-TV9 News staff are picking their winning college football teams for the week. This week, they're picking between Iowa vs. Iowa State, Pittsburgh vs. Penn State and Clemson vs. Syracuse.

You can play, too! Click or tap here to sign up to see if you can beat them!

Nicole Agee:
Iowa vs Iowa State: IOWA STATE
The excitement from College Game Day and a home field advantage will lead to a Cyclone win this year, but it’ll be a fun one to watch; 21-18.

Pittsburgh vs Penn State: PENN STATE
I read somewhere that this will be the 100th meeting of these two teams – I’ll pick the Nittany Lions to win this one, 35-6. Plus, Nittany Lions is just fun to say.

Clemson vs Syracuse: CLEMSON
Apologies to my husband who grew up in Syracuse, but the No. 1 Tigers will run away with a victory in the Carrier Dome, 38-3.

Chris Earl:
Iowa State 23, Iowa 20. I think the bye actually helps the Cyclones tremendously from the Northern Iowa near-upset. Iowa has been highly efficient in the wins over Miami of Ohio and Rutgers. Now they’re stepping up in class. I see a very low-scoring first half and then it’ll get crazy like Cy-Hawk game usually does. Cyclones started out as a favorite but that has plunged in the two weeks since the opener.

Penn State 31, Pitt 16. The Lions dominated the last two games, 33-14 and 51-6 after Pitt won a shootout in 2016. Pitt already got dusted up by Virginia Tech as PSU hasn’t played a major team yet. Lions comfortably.

Clemson 48, Syracuse 23. Three weeks ago, I said “this would be the last stumbling block for Clemson”. Syracuse gave up 63 points to a Maryland team that I was convinced would be battling Rutgers for “Free Space on the Bingo Card of the Big Ten”. Is Maryland that good… or Syracuse that dreadful? It’s probably somewhere in the middle. I like Syracuse to keep it closer than expectations but it’ll be late scores to pretty up the final.

Scott Saville:
Iowa 24
Iowa State 23
I am going with the point spread. I have no clue who is going to win this game.

Pitt 17
Penn State 24
The 2nd best rivalry game of the week.

Clemson 58
Syracuse 21
Syracuse blew a chance at College Game Day last week. They are probably lucky because they don’t need any more eyes on this blowout!

Iowa - ISU: Before the season, I was leaning Iowa State, but after the first two weeks of the season, I’m taking Iowa. The Hawkeyes have been impressive spreading the ball around on offense. I have concerns about ISU after barely beating UNI. Hawkeyes make it five in a row against the Cyclones, 27-17.

Clemson - Syracuse: Vegas has Clemson winning by almost 30 in this game. I will say this without hesitation, that’s not high at all. Syracuse got blown out by Maryland last week! Maryland! I’m taking Clemson 45-14.

Pittsburgh - Penn State: This is the 100th meeting, but there’s uncertainty about the future of the rivalry. I’m taking Penn State in this one, 31-10.

Meteorologist Joe Winters
Iowa at Iowa State – Iowa State 17-13 – Again the weather turns and cooperates for GameDay and for the Cyclones. How could I pick against them? I have two Clones in the weather lab!

Pittsburgh at Penn State – Penn State 36 to 21 – Pennsylvania has a city named Mars. I have been to Mars and back to find out the Lions will win.

Clemson at Syracuse – Clemson 54-14 – No contest! Number one hangs on, dare I say throughout the entire season.

Nicole Agee:
Rutgers vs Iowa: IOWA
Who doesn't love a conference match-up? I'll admit that I'm not familiar with the Big 10 this season, so I'll say fans will help Iowa roll to 2-0 at Kinnick, 31-28.

Texas A&M at Clemson: CLEMSON
If you missed watching the Tigers in week 1, they look GOOD. I just need to make sure Jack knows which Tigers are *his* Tigers; 45-16

LSU at Texas: LSU
Call it the week of the Tiger, - LSU will take down the Horns at home in a close game, 26-24

Chris Earl
Rutgers at Iowa. This is a tricky one as Iowa comes in as a three-touchdown favorite. The Hawkeyes have clear goals: win, stay healthy and not show too much of the playbook before the Iowa State game. ISU tried to take this approach against Northern Iowa. They won...barely. Expect another slow start in Iowa City before the Hawks wear the "Free Space on the Bingo Card of the Big Ten" town. Iowa 31, Rutgers 14.

Texas A&M at Clemson. Some insist could be could be Clemson's toughest test. Not so as they have Syracuse next week on the road. A&M had Clemson in a tight game last year but I see Clemson getting up for this showdown. Clemson 47, Texas A&M 21.

LSU vs. Texas. Both teams "exceeded expectations" in their opening wins. Texas comes in as a moderate underdog and they have a reputation as being a superb underdog. LSU often starts to cough on its own perfume in big games. Upset Special. Texas 31, LSU 27.

Scott Saville:
Rutgers 14
Iowa 35
Rutgers has a pretty good offense and could put some points on the board. The Scarlet Knights struggle on defense. Good tuneup For Iowa but they can’t afford any more big injuries.

Texas A@M 20
Clemson 41
Dabo has an NFL team playing college football.

LSU 38
Texas 35
LSU found an offense. This should be a fun game to watch!

Josh Christensen
Rutgers vs No. 20 Iowa: Rutgers makes its first trip to Iowa City. This is only the second meeting between these two teams with Iowa winning back in 2016, 14-7. Both teams are coming off wins in their openers by wide margins. Iowa is a 20-point favorite in this one, but I think this might be a little too high. Rutgers does have some weapons with running back Isaih Pacheco and quarterback McLane Carter. I still feel Iowa’s defense will give them fits. Hawkeyes move to 2-0 winning 31-17.

No. 12 Texas A&M vs No. 1 Clemson: Clemson went 15-0 last year, but its closest game of the season was against Texas A&M, 28-26, at College Station. This time, they’re in Clemson. Trevor Lawrence didn’t do much in the season opener versus Georgia Tech, but that changes this week. Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond had four total touchdowns last week. Clemson is a 17.5-point favorite, and I think this also might be a tad high. Tigers still win, 28-20.

No. 6 LSU vs No. 9 Texas: LSU quarterback Joe Burrow threw five touchdown passes in last week’s season opener. Texas has injuries at running back. I’m taking LSU in this one, 30-20.

Meteorologist Joe Winters

Rutgers at Iowa – Rutgers 10 – Iowa 36 – The Hawkeyes defends the rain chance once again, sending Rutgers home into an easterly breeze.

Texas A&M at Clemson – Texas A&M 24 - Clemson 48 - Dorian is in the minds of the southeast, keeping Clemson at Category 1 in the Polls!

LSU at Texas – LSU 35 – Texas 24 – 97 degrees at kickoff! In this case it’s the heat and the humidity. LSU is use too hot and humid conditions and take the win.

Week 1:
Some members of the KCRG-TV9 News staff are picking their winning college football teams for the week. This week, they're picking between Miami-Ohio at Iowa, UNI Panthers and ISU and Oregon at Auburn.

You can play, too! Click or tap here to sign up to see if you can beat them!

Nicole Agee:
Miami-Ohio at Iowa: IOWA 42-10
"Not only is Iowa ranked heading into the season, but the Hawks and their fans are coming off the excitement of FryFest and preseason hype," she said.

UNI Panthers and ISU: UNI 36-34
"The Cyclones may have a preseason ranking, but I can't pick against my beloved alma mater – GO PANTHERS!"

Oregon at Auburn: OREGON 28-24
"Without any research, I'll say Oregon based on their higher ranking, snappy uniforms and my son's love for The Oregon Duck (which is the mascot's actual name)."

Chris Earl:
Iowa 31, Miami Ohio 13. "A case where the Hawkeyes just want to get in, get out healthy with a win. Weather could be in play keeping the score down," he said.

Iowa State 27, Northern Iowa 16. "I don't believe ISU wants to 'show too much'. Another case of get in, get out."

Auburn 27, Oregon 23. "Oregon has, supposedly, the "best offensive line" in college football. Auburn has a strong defensive line, however. This isn't the up-and-down, frantic pace of Oregon a decade ago. Auburn's coaching staff is trying not to get fired and, last year, I saw very little from Oregon in big games that gives me confidence in their end-game approach. Not as high-scoring as some believe it will be. War Eagle."

Scott Saville:
Miami of Ohio 14
IOWA 38

"Iowa with too much experience and talent coming back. Epenesa and Golston will be a nightmare for a first time starting QB from Miami," he said.

UNI 14
IOWA STATE 28
"Iowa State with too much talent and experience up front on both sides of the ball. UNI as always will put up a good fight. The Panthers have shocked the Cyclones before and won't be intimidated."

Oregon 21
AUBURN 28
"Tough opener for both teams. We need more of this and less cupcake scheduling. Great for the fans."

Josh Christensen:
Miami (OH) vs Iowa: "The RedHawks come in with an inexperienced quarterback, and that's not a good thing, especially when A.J. Epenesa is going to be let loose. With Oliver Martin eligible to play, it adds another weapon to the Iowa offense. Last time these two teams met in 2016, Iowa won 45-21. This week, Iowa wins it 42-10."

"UNI vs Iowa State: Northern Iowa also comes in with a new quarterback. Iowa State has question marks at running back and wide receiver, but still has more than enough firepower to make things difficult for the Panthers. Iowa State wins 45-14."

Oregon vs Auburn: "I know Oregon's getting a lot of hype this year, but I still don't trust the Pac-12 in big games, especially against the SEC. I'm picking Auburn to win 28-17."

Joe Winters:
-Miami-Ohio at Iowa – Light east wind keeps the Red Hawks grounded.

-UNI Panthers and ISU – Panthers can't run as fast if any rain falls, while Cy just flies above it!

-Oregon at Auburn – Humidity and isolated storms seem like ducky weather to me.
