JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - Johnson County Republicans have nominated Phil Hemingway to run as the party choice in an election for the open position on the Johnson County Board of Supervisors.

The party made the announcement on social media Saturday.

Johnson County Democrats say Royceann Porter will be running for their party in the election.

Independent candidates haven't been announced, but they are required to have 250 signatures by Monday afternoon to be considered for the position.

The county will be holding the special election on December 18.

The position will go to fill the seat of County Supervisor Kurt Friese, who died unexpectedly in late October. His cause of death is still unknown.
