A man was killed after crashing his motorcycle in rural Jackson County on Saturday evening, authorities said on Sunday.

At around 6:29 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, the Iowa State Patrol responded to a report of a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of U.S. Highway 52 and 114th Street in Jackson County, located northwest of Sabula.

John Cole Jr., 52, of Sabula, was killed in the accident.

Officials with the state patrol believe that the motorcycle, a 1996 Harley-Davidson, left the highway into a ditch, colliding with an embankment. Cole Jr. was thrown from his motorcycle by the force of the crash.

An investigation into the crash continues.
