Iowa parents furious after airline leaves child alone in Houston airport
A central Iowa couple got quite a scare when they sent their child to Texas to visit her grandma Monday.
Dana Dunn says a United Airlines attendant left her 12-year-old daughter alone at the Houston airport. Dunn lives in Des Moines, but she's originally from Texas. The attendant was supposed to stay with the girl until her grandma picked her up. The Dunn's even paid an extra $300 for the service.
"She was just sitting there waiting. Anyone could have come and got her. She said, 'Gramma, Irina was the flight attendant, and she was very nice. She then handed me off to Sharon. Sharon said, 'I'm Sharon. I'll see you later. And Sharon was gone.'" Dunn said.
United's website says attendants are supposed to escort minor children onto and off planes and take them to designated adults.
Dunn says whoever was supposed to be with her daughter left her alone for 15 minutes, and the girl's grandma just happened to find her.
United Airlines says they are looking into what happened.
