While the two are in the area, both believe they will be safe.

Daniel Emery from Ames was visiting a cousin in North Carolina when the evacuation orders were announced. They then went to higher ground north of Jacksonville, to stay with a friend in Greenville.

"We're just going to sit inside, maybe have some beers, ride this thing out," Emery said.

Lauren Stone, originally of New Albin and now a resident in Pinehurst, a town in central North Carolina, said she's nervous about the storm.

"The rain is what I'm worried about," Stone said. "We're currently kind of taking shelter in the local Hilton where I work, also just trying to get out of it. My house is pretty prone to flooding."

Both of the Iowa natives say that regardless of the experience, they'll have something to tell their friends back home about Florence.
