"Connect. Learn. Create." That was this year's tagline for the Innovation Expo in Cedar Rapids.

The 6th annual exposition had its largest lineup of exhibitors in event history. The day long and state-wide event had more than 100 entrepreneurs present some of the things they have been working on.

The expo hosted three sub-events to create connections between entrepreneurs and resources. The first, Pitch Lab, allowed for 10 startup entrepreneurs to pitch their businesses to a panel of experts. The second, Seed and Venture Forum had eight entrepreneurs showcase their business to venture capitalists. Lastly, another showcase had 98 Iowa-based companies exhibit their companies.

Last year, the event had a crowd of more than 700 entrepreneurs, investors, and community and business leaders.

The Entrepreneurial Development Center says some of the connections entrepreneurs made will hopefully have an impact.

"It's important to have a viable and innovative business here creating jobs," said Christie Remley, Marketing Director. "Jobs which employ talented people, that then bring other talented people to the area to make it a more vibrant place."

Innovation Expo was a partnership between Venture Capital Association, Entrepreneurial Development Center, Inc., and University of Iowa John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center.
