Iowa House subcommittee advances bill to prohibit traffic enforcement cameras

DES MOINES (KCRG) - A house subcommittee also advanced a bill to prohibit traffic enforcement cameras -- the latest push from Iowa lawmakers on what to do with them.

House Bill 125 states that, in July, "all local ordinances authorizing the use of automated or remote systems for traffic law enforcement shall discontinue".

Any citations a person gets before July, however, would still need to be paid.

In Cedar Rapids, the traffic cameras on I-380 stopped issuing citations in April 2017 amid legal challenges involving the state.
