IOWA CITY, iowa (KCRG) -- With temperatures dropping significantly, there's now more space where homeless people can spend the night in Iowa City.

The Shelter House has received a temporary permit to allow the homeless .to stay overnight in its lobby. This allows the shelter to serve 30 more people, raising its capacity to 100. The lobby space will be open when the temperatures get below freezing. The Shelter House told TV9 it is not at capacity right now.

In about a month, Iowa City's Low Barrier Winter Shelter will open. It's at the same location as last year -- 821 South Clinton Street. The Shelter House says on an average night last year, the low barrier shelter served about 25 people. Plans call for the shelter to open on December 3.
