Iowa City police officers volunteered to take local children shopping on Tuesday as part of a community outreach event called Holiday with Heroes.

Officers helped 35 kids chosen by the Iowa City Police Association, with the assistance of local community organizations, the Iowa Department of Human Services, and the Iowa City Community School District. The children were accompanied by officers in uniform, and were then taken shopping for necessities and gifts for themselves and family members.

The event was hosted by Target, and funded in part by donations to the police association and the Iowa City Masonic Lodge.
