The City of Iowa City has announced some disruptions to transportation in the downtown area due to the fire at the Hodge-Hieronymus Square construction site on Tuesday afternoon.
City officials said that Burlington Street between S. Clinton Street and S. Dubuque Street will likely be closed through the day on Wednesday. Traffic will be detoured onto Dubuque, Court, and Clinton Streets while the section of Burlington Street is closed.
All other streets in the downtown area are open, but traffic flow will likely be affected by the closure of Burlington Street.
Bus routes that run along Burlington Street in Iowa City may be affected by the closure. Check with Iowa City Transit for more information on specific routes.
The Court Street Transportation Center will be open for parking on Wednesday. It was closed immediately after the fire on Tuesday.
City officials recommended that drivers avoid the area if possible while crews are still working. Iowa City Police cautioned earlier that traffic is heavy in many areas of downtown due to the disruption caused by street closures.
