IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - An association representing downtown Iowa City businesses is seeking applications for a new nighttime mayor, officials said Wednesday.

The Iowa City Downtown District established the position in 2017 to provide advocacy and support for the city's downtown nightlife offerings and the businesses that support it. Angela Winnike was chosen in April 2017 to hold the position, and she stepped down in December 2018 to pursue other opportunities.

The nighttime mayor is a full-time position for the Downtown District, and will carry additional responsibilities for nightlife and arts-driven marketing. The association also formed a new Nightlife, Arts & Culture Council that will work with the nighttime mayor to achieve those goals.

Applicants should have a background in communications, marketing, hospitality, or similar fields. Residency in the Iowa City, Coralville, or North Liberty area is a must.

Interested persons can apply online through the Downtown District website.
