Inmate makes fire in cell, punches officers

FORT MADISON, Iowa (KCRG) -- The Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison says an inmate started a fire in his cell and barricaded himself inside around noon Friday. When correctional officers tried to remove the inmate to put out the fire, he punched them. The correctional officers used pepper spray to subdue him.

The officers received treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries.
