Ice jam, high water washes away railroad bridge in Clayton County
An ice jam and flooding on the Turkey River washed away a railroad bridge, cutting off a rail corridor along the Mississippi River.
The Canadian Pacific Railroad says the bridge washed away late Thursday night. The rail line was already closed because of the high water in the area and railroad staff were monitoring the site.
Canadian Pacific says an engineering team is working to develop a plan to reopen the railroad line once the floodwaters recede. A spokesperson did not give a timeline for that repair.
Right now, the company says it is rerouting shipments around the washed out bridge.
