CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Hy-Vee) - It's Heart Month so let's talk about margarines, butter and spreads. Is butter better? There are many choices out there.
Four points of decision for "best:"
1. No trans fat - It raises bad LDL cholesterol. It's been replaced by palm oil and other plant oils.
2 Saturated fat 2 or less grams per serving. Saturated fats raise blood cholesterol.
3. Do you like the flavor?
4. What calorie level do you want?
Extras:
Butter blends available
Spreads with phyto-sterols help lower bad cholesterol: Take Control and Benecol.
