Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City is set to open to the public this Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house.

Members of the media toured the facility Tuesday afternoon.

"This has been 30 months in the making," said Chuck Swanson, Hancher's executive director.

The original Hancher was destroyed in the 2008 flood. The replacement carries a total price tag of $176,000,000. It was largely paid for with FEMA dollars and contributions from the state and private donors.

Friday's ribbon cutting is set for 3 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
