DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Four high schoolers from Iowa have been chosen for the 2018 Youth Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. for three and a half days next week.

“These four young women exemplify the goals and values of GEAR UP Iowa,” says Karen Misjak, executive director of Iowa College Aid. “They’re thinking not only of what they’ve gained from the program already but what they can learn in the future and how they can use that knowledge to better their world.”

One of the students, Anika Munjal, is a junior at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids.

Also chosen were two juniors from Des Moines, Gorma Williams from Hoover High School, and Mary Ann Schwindt from Roosevelt High School.

The fourth junior chosen from Iowa who will be going to the summit is Storm Lake High School student Vanesa Alday.

GEAR UP Iowa is a federal grant program administered by Iowa College Aid to increase college awareness and attainment in twelve Iowa school districts.
