A school food pantry has been added at Elizabeth Tate Alternative High School.

The pantry began operations with a kick-off event Monday afternoon. The service will provide food to students on Mondays and Fridays after school.

The pantry will be run by the Crisis Center of Johnson County. The Johnson County Board of Supervisors committed $12,000 to help fund the project.

"Monday you can take home some food for the week, and on Friday load up for the weekend," said board chair Rod Sullivan.

Officials said they would like to add more pantries to area secondary schools in the future.
