Flooding causes problems at Solon Wastewater Treatment Plant

SOLON, Iowa (KCRG TV9) -- Mill Creek in Solon spilled out of its banks Friday morning, causing flooding and issues at the city's wastewater treatment plant.

In a live interview with TV9, Public Works Director Scott Kleppe asked everyone in Solon to limit water usage, keeping showers short and not doing dishes or laundry.

"It's not the water that they are using, it's the water that's going down the drain that's really hurting us right now," Kleppe said.

He says he was stranded at the city's wastewater treatment plant because of flooded roads.

"We didn't leave the wastewater plant until about 5:30 a.m.," he said.

Kleppe says the flooding caused the treatment plant to loose power for an hour and then the generator failed.

"It was like the perfect storm," Kleppe said.

Randall Park in Solon is also seeing high water and damage to the grounds and play areas.
