The first all-inclusive playground in Cedar Rapids will open Thursday morning at Noelridge Park.
It has taken about two years, but Variety The Children's Charity finally completed construction on the 9,600 square foot playground that will be accessible to those with disability and mobility issues.
According to 2010 Census data, just over five percent of children in the U.S. have a disability.
The playground allows everyone to play as independently as possible and provide a safe environment that allows children of all abilities to develop their skills and play with others.
The playground features a rubber surface to make the area safer for both children and adults.
The playground also includes shaded canopies, harnessed swings and a saucer swing that will allow children to lay flat or sit criss-cross to experience the sensation of swinging.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place October 19 at 10 a.m.
After the ceremony, the park will be open to everyone.
