Fire damages North Liberty garage, home
A North Liberty family said they were eating dinner when they smelled smoke, and discovered their garage was on fire.
Firefighters said it happened just after 6 p.m. Sunday at 8 Brickwood Knoll NE, east of North Liberty. The flames started in the garage and spread to the rest of the house. It took firefighters about an hour to put out the flames.
One neighbor said he was in his kitchen when something caught his eye out the window.
"The front windows were all just aglow, so I knew somebody had a fire. So I ran outside and the house was pretty much engulfed in flames," said Gerald Clark.
Multiple departments responded with tanker trucks to carry in water because the development doesn't have fire hydrants.
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire, but said they do not think it was intentional.
No one was hurt.
