CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Nearly 700 Iowans are waiting to receive a life-saving organ right now.

To encourage more Iowans to donate, Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids held an event Monday where people could sign up. The event also included raising a Donate Life flag. It will be up all month to remind people to step up during National Donate Life Month.

According to the Iowa Donor Network, approximately 70 percent of adults in the state are registered as donors.
