A man from Chicago faces charges as Dubuque police investigate a shooting that sent a man to the hospital.

Officers responded to a shots fired call just after 7:30 a.m. Friday in the 2100 block of Jackson Street. Officers found a 32-year-old man from Chicago shot in the upper leg. First responders took him to the hospital where he's expected to survive his injury.

Police believe the victim and another man started to argue inside a home at 2150 Jackson Street. The fight turned physical, moved outside, and someone shot the victim.

Officers sent out a suspect vehicle description to authorities in nearby states. Authorities stopped a vehicle believed to be related to the shooting in Elizabeth, Illinois.

Authorities arrested David Caldwell, 26 from Chicago, on charges unrelated the shooting. But authorities say Caldwell confessed to shooting the victim during an interview.

Caldwell is in custody in Illinois. When authorities extradite him to Dubuque, Caldwell faces charges of Willful Injury and Reckless Use of a Firearm. That carries up to 10 years in prison and a fine between $1,000 and $10,000.

Dubuque police do not believe there is any danger to the public.
