The Iowa State Patrol said the driver of a car involved in a single vehicle crash Tuesday has died.

Troopers said it happened around 11 a.m. on U.S. 218 just north of the U.S. 34 interchange in Henry County. That's on the east edge of Mount Pleasant.

They said a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu was southbound on U.S. 218 when it left the road, hit a guardrail, went into the median, rolled down an embankment and landed on its top on railroad tracks. The car then caught fire and emergency crews pulled the driver and sole occupant from the burning vehicle.

A helicopter took the driver to University of Iowa Hospital where the driver died.

The patrol has not yet released the driver's name.
