It’s “coincidence.” That’s what Sgt. John Perrine with the Indiana State Police said on Wednesday about a possible connection between the double murder of two teens there and the killings of two young Iowa girls, Lyric Cook, 10, and Elizabeth Collins, 8.

According to Perrine, Indiana authorities compared notes with investigators in Iowa and determined, while the cases are similar in some ways, police have no reason to believe they’re connected.

"We would love to solve both cases," said Perrine. “But, at this point, it appears the similarities are coincidence.”

Indiana Police say Abigail Williams, 13, and Liberty German, 14, were hanging out near the Monon High Bridge in the small town of Delphi, Indiana, February 13th. Family became worried when the two didn’t show up for their ride later that afternoon.

After an extensive search, the teens’ bodies were found the next day, in a wooded area about a half mile from the bridge. Investigators found a picture and audio of a man on German’s cellphone. They believe he may be connected to the homicides.

Cook and Collins went missing in July, 2012. Later that year, their bodies were also discovered in a rural spot—the Seven Bridges Wildlife Area. Police have yet to find the killer.

Upon hearing that the cases are not likely connected, Drew Collins, Elizabeth Collins’ father, said it makes the situation “even scarier.”

“For me, it doesn’t bring any comfort,” said Collins. “There’s somebody, possibly, in Indiana and then there’s somebody here. Both these people need to be brought to justice.”
