Daffodil fundraiser benefiting cancer patients kicks off

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) -- People in Cedar Rapids had a chance to support cancer patients while showing off their artistic sides Tuesday night.

Gems of Hope held an event it called Etchings for Hope at the Helen G Nassif Wellness Center. That's in the Physicians Clinic of Iowa building. The event kicked off the "Hope Blooms Daffodil campaign" where people can buy daffodils for themselves or cancer patients. And all of the proceeds from the daffodil sales go to programs for cancer patients.

Tuesday night, 65 people etched daffodils into window ornaments that go to cancer patients or anyone supporting cancer patients' journeys.
One of the organizers said she was excited about the good turnout.

"I'm overwhelmed about how our first year ever doing it turned out, so we're probably going to need a bigger space next year," Rhonada Weber with Etchings for Hope said.
