A northern Iowa man is dead and another bicyclist was hurt after a vehicle struck them in Palo Alto County.

An Iowa State Patrol report said it happened about 1:20 p.m. Tuesday on County Highway N40, about 3 miles north of Emmetsburg.

Troopers said 83-year-old Duane Anderson of Estherville was driving south on Highway N40, as were two bicylces, traveling side by side in the outer portion of the lane of travel. They said Anderson was adjusting his mirror and failed to see the bicycles, striking both of them.

36-year-old Luke Rouse was knocked into the west ditch. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

33-year-old Lacey Rouse and her 4-year-old son were riding the second bicycle. They were knocked down onto the west shoulder. She suffered injuries in the crash.

Troopers are still investigating the crash.
