Emergency responders took one person to the hospital after a house exploded today in Poweshiek County.

The Poweshiek County Sheriff's Office said the explosion happened about 9:30 a.m. Thursday at a farm north of Deep River at 2161 470th Avenue.

Authorities said the homeowner, Wayne Cheney, 56, was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals for treatment of his injuries.

Deputies said no one else was home at the time of the explosion.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the explosion, but said the house is a total loss.

Cheney was falsely accused in connection with University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts' disappearance and murder. Police said he had no involvement and someone else is facing charges.

Alliant Energy and East-Central Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative said a power outage in the area was not related to the explosion.
