Crews battle fire on southwest side
Fire crews responded to a fire at a building on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids early Friday morning.
Someone reported flames in the area of the landfill at 1:08 a.m. The first engine responded to the corner of 22nd Avenue and A Street Southwest and reported heavy smoke and flames showing from the C Street side of the building. Two more engines , the ladder truck, rescue and the battalion chief were called in. The A Street side eventually collapsed.
A search of the city's assessor page shows that P-Lang Construction owns the building that burnt down. But the building has been largely unused since the Flood of 2008.
Officials say there were no injuries. The Salvation Army was called in to help the owners. Cedar Rapids Police and Fire Department are investigating the cause.
