A pileup involving up to 50 vehicles temporarily closed a major interstate highway in central Iowa on Monday, according to officials.

KCCI reports it happened just before 11 a.m. in the westbound lanes east of the East Mixmaster between Exit 141 and Exit 137A.

The Iowa Department of Transportation said that Interstate 80 in the crash area is reopened to traffic. Traffic cameras from the Iowa DOT showed traffic flowing freely through the area.

At least one person had serious injuries, KCCI reported.

The roadway was closed so crews could clean up the mess involving semi-trucks and passenger vehicles.

The snowstorm prompted Winter Weather Advisories and Snow Squall Warnings throughout the state Monday.
