IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Some neighborhood residents want the City Council in Iowa City to bar construction of a house that would resemble the University of Iowa's Kinnick Stadium.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports that Reed and Sandy Carlson have filed building plans with the city for a nearly 7,500-square-foot house that would echo the 87-year-old stadium, complete with brick siding and a replica of the press box.

Several residents spoke against the house at Tuesday's City Council meeting, saying the building plans show it would be out of character for the neighborhood.

But City Attorney Eleanor Dilkes said it was her understanding that code requirements have been satisfied, so the council doesn't have authority to force changes.

The council asked for the issue to be put on the agenda for its next meeting.
